Celebrating its 35th birthday, Camerata Silesia invites you to a concert full of surprises featuring 18th-century choral music. No one needs to be convinced of the compositional genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose Missa brevis in G major and two short choral works will fill the first part of the concert. However, you may not have had many opportunities to discover the music of Artem Wedel and Józef Zeidler. The Camerata's concert repertoire shows that it is not only in Viennese circles that masters of the classical style can be found.

Podczas koncertu w archikatedrze do świata Händla przeniosą nas muzycy {oh!} Orkiestry – jednego z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych w Polsce zespołów specjalizujących się w historycznych praktykach wykonawczych. {oh!} Orkiestra powstała w 2012 roku z inicjatywy Martyny Pastuszki, a dzięki wielu ambitnym projektom i ogromnej charyzmie wykonawczej szybko zdobyła uznanie w kraju i za granicą. Muzycy koncertowali na najważniejszych festiwalach, m.in. Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival, Bachfest Leipzig, Händel-Festspiele w Halle czy Stockholm Early Music Festival, współpracując z wybitnymi solistami i instytucjami. {oh!} The orchestra invites you to a Christmas performance of George Frideric Handel's Messiah at the Archcathedral in Katowice
‘Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people: for unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord’ – with these words, the soprano in George Frideric Handel's Messiah announces the birth of Christ. In the heart of the festive season, verses from the Gospel of St Luke, combined with Handel's exquisite music, herald an evening full of extraordinary emotions.
On 28 December, the sounds of this Baroque masterpiece will resound in all their glory inside Katowice's Archcathedral of Christ the King. As part of the ‘Music in the Pantheon’ series, {oh!} Orchestra conducted by Martyna Pastuszka and outstanding soloists: Narea Son, Monika Jägerová, Hugo Hymas and Kacper Kostrzewski. The famous choral parts will be performed by the Katowice City Singers Camerata Silesia, prepared by Anna Szostak. Admission to the concert is free.
The three-part oratorio, composed in 1741, remains one of the most important works in the history of music. Using words from the Old and New Testaments, it tells the story of the life, death and mission of Jesus, emphasising his role in the history of salvation. The most famous moment is undoubtedly the choral Hallelujah – an explosion of joy after the miracle of the Resurrection. A well-known anecdote says that the tradition of standing up during the singing of Hallelujah probably originated at the London premiere of the work – the first to stand up was King George II, who was present at the concert. According to legend, the solemn nature of this passage literally lifted the monarch from his seat.
During the concert in the cathedral, we will be transported to Handel's world by the musicians of the {oh!} Orchestra – one of Poland's most recognisable ensembles specialising in historical performance practices. {oh!} Orchestra was founded in 2012 on the initiative of Martyna Pastuszka, and thanks to many ambitious projects and enormous performing charisma, it quickly gained recognition at home and abroad. The musicians have performed at major festivals, including the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival, Bachfest Leipzig, Händel-Festspiele in Halle and the Stockholm Early Music Festival, collaborating with outstanding soloists and institutions. The orchestra has released eighteen albums of instrumental and operatic music from various eras, and Martyna Pastuszka's creative approach to repertoire often results in phenomenal discoveries that restore the splendour of rarely performed and forgotten scores.
The concert series ‘Music in the Pantheon’, organised by the Upper Silesian Pantheon in Katowice, was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund – a state special-purpose fund, as part of the ‘Music’ programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
